On Saturday, December 14th, 2024, MUTANT. descended upon the Magasins Généraux in Pantin for a night of techno music. We were there specifically to catch Setaoc Mass, and we weren’t disappointed.
Roulita and Setaoc Mass delivered mind-bending sets that pushed the boundaries of electronic music. The early start time was a brilliant idea. It allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the music. And we avoided the usual late-night fatigue because we left early.
Setaoc Mass is a pivotal figure in contemporary techno and electronic music. As a talented DJ, producer, and label curator, his artistic vision is bold. It is nuanced, drawing inspiration from the depths of techno, Hypnotic, IDM (Intelligent dance music), and experimental music. He seemed to be playing slightly higher BPMs and that made us move. And his use of psychedelic special effects, infectious and complex beats and really skilled experimental mixing was very impressive.
The music was top-notch, with both artists delivering incredible performances. Nevertheless, the lack of food and snacks became an issue. As the night went on, our energy levels started to dip. As the night wore on, hunger pangs started to set in. But the incredible music and the electric atmosphere kept us going.
The crowd was all ages, very beautiful and way into dancing early in the evening. Phone use was very minimal, creating a great early atmosphere . Even though the house lights were a bit too bright, it didn’t seem to dampen the crowd’s spirits. They were up for it from the start. The music was simply too good to ignore.
Overall, MUTANT. x Magasins Généraux was an incredible event. It was a great opportunity to see some terrific music and dance the night away with friends in a very friendly atmosphere. Despite a few minor issues that can be improved for future events. We hope that the success of this event will make early start times a trend in the future.
