Navigating the Humidity and Hypnotism at Donato Dozzy’s Extended Set at FVTVR, July 2026

We headed down to FVTVR on the Quai d’Austerlitz with high expectations, drawn by the prospect of an immersive musical journey that would take us deep into the night. Having spent countless hours replaying his Rome Boiler Room set (below) from last year and witnessing his incredible outing earlier this season (as explored in The Deep Blue Drift: Voices From The Lake at essaim), we were especially looking forward to catching Donato Dozzy’s extended set. Anticipation was running high for the kind of masterfully paced storytelling he is so well known for delivering behind the decks.

Musically speaking, the night genuinely delivered on that front. The selections were exceptional, leaning heavily into experimental, forward-thinking sounds that felt deeply hypnotic, patient, and wonderfully moody as the hours ticked by. For anyone purely seeking adventurous sonic exploration and intricate, mind-bending rhythms, the audio landscape hit all the right spots and provided plenty of moments to lose oneself entirely in the groove.

That being said, you just can’t expect a peak experience every single night out, and this evening came with a few major caveats that kept it grounded in reality. First, the venue itself struggled under the weight of a typical Parisian Saturday night crowd, bringing out an energy that felt a bit disconnected from the intimacy the music asked for. The atmosphere inside became intensely hot and humid, turning the packed dance floor into a true stamina test rather than a smooth, effortless release. Add in some strange stylistic choices, like awkward webbing fabric stretched across the ceiling that felt entirely out of place within the concrete aesthetics of the space, along with always frustratingly long queues for the bathrooms and congested weekend bottlenecks around the bar areas, and the physical environment began to wear on the overall vibe.

Ultimately, between the physical discomfort of the room and needing to head out before the final track played, it felt like an incomplete chapter. It was a night saved by strong, atmospheric tunes and brilliant moments of hypnotic selection, but cut short before it could fully unfold, leaving us wishing we could have stayed to see where the journey ultimately landed.
