Expertly curated techno festival, the music was terrific and the sound systems impeccable – Positive Education is a really fabulous example of how festivals should be, with amazing artistic lightning and lasers used in a really minimal and subtitle way. The setting at Cité du design in an old ammunition factory was magnificent and the walls shook with techno thunder.
There was a striking difference between the more popular main room mainstream sound and the more psychedelic smaller stage acts that complemented each other well.
For example there were big headliners techno trance current trend VTSS, Anetha, Ki/Ki and Partiboi69 of Instagram / Tiktok popularity that filled the main stage with more mainstream big room sounds and attracted a younger crowd, while the smaller stages where more experimental and attracted an older more sophisticated crowd
Jennifer Cardini B2B with Paolo Bozzi were at their utmost best, delivering a very moving and high-energy set at the same time. The crowd was united in a sense of shared community and highly appreciative of the old school rave songs they played at the end of their set.
Australian boisterous and extraverted DJ Partiboi69 demonstrated once again that he is much more at ease with big raves and festivals than small clubs. He was really much better at Positive Education than last week at the Rex Club in Paris and set the audience on fire. Although we at Peace of Mind are wary that his stage presence comes dangerously close to EDM, we also admire the authentic silly rave fun he creates with his jump around antics
We were a bit disappointed by the performance of these 3 internationally praised Djs VTSS, Anetha, Ki/Ki and we were sorry to come to the conclusion that although female DJs have made it at last to the main techno stages which is a great breakthrough, They must be under strong pressure to conform to current mainstream techno trance expectations and sinusoidal sets based on EDM samples and endless drops.
